Jan-Aug Total of 1,618,997 units up 13.5 Y-o-Y
SEOUL, Korea, Sep. 1, 2005 - Following a blistering sales pace in July, Hyundai Motor Co. saw August sales cool down. While the 183,037 units sold worldwide in August represents a decline of 11.2 percent over the prior month, the figure puts Hyundai 4.5 percent ahead of August 2004. With a total of 1,618, 997 units sold in the first eight months of this year, Hyundai remains on track for another record-setting sales year.
Domestic commercial vehicle purchases gained slight momentum in August, reaching 13,806 units for a 5.6 percent gain over the prior month. But despite growing demand for the Getz/Click, Accent/Verna and Tucson, August sales of passenger cars, minivans and SUVs shrank 19.6 percent over July to 31,662 units.
While August exports from Hyundai’s three Korean factories dropped by 23.2 percent m-o-m to 76,007 units, output at overseas factories in China, India and the United States climbed by 12.4 percent m-o-m to reach 61,602. In total, 137,609 units were sold overseas in August, down 10.5 m-o-m but up 3.6 y-o-y.
