Best Buy Awards go to the best vehicles in 17 categories following weeks of expert evaluation and testing by KBB.com experts, along with analysis of a broad range of vehicle-related data, including vehicle pricing, 5-Year Cost-to Own data, consumer reviews and ratings, and vehicle sales/retail sales information.
"It is an honor to receive Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Awards for the Kona, Kona Electric and Santa Fe, demonstrating Hyundai’s commitment to developing a range of product offerings that deliver great customer value," said Mike O’Brien, vice president, product, corporate and digital planning, Hyundai Motor America. "Kelley Blue Book has been a longstanding and trusted resource for prospective car buyers, and these prestigious awards indicate that Hyundai customers can take pride in knowing that they chose an outstanding product."
Kona employs refined aesthetics with sculpted body forms and sporty contours for an athletic, bold, and striking exterior appearance that is complemented by the vehicle’s sleek and simple interior layout. Two gasoline powertrains are offered on the Kona: a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson engine that produces 147 horsepower that is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and a Gamma 1.6-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that generates 175 horsepower that is coupled to a seven-speed EcoShift® dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The Kona also offers optional Smart Cruise Control and standard SmartSense safety technologies that include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Driver Attention Warning that add additional protection for drivers and passengers.
Kona Electric is Hyundai’s first compact electric crossover for the U.S. market, and was designed for consumers with active, eco-focused lifestyles of all kinds. It achieves a generous 258-mile EPA-estimated range via a high-efficiency 150 kW electric motor that produces 201 horsepower and a high-voltage 64kWh lithium ion battery. DC fast-charging capability is standard on the Kona Electric, and for charging convenience, the charging port is integrated in the front grille area that is further complimented by the vehicle’s voluminous exterior styling features, aggressive body styling and wide stance.
Santa Fe is Hyundai’s best-selling SUV in the brand’s history in America. Its exterior design is highlighted by Hyundai’s signature Cascading Grille and characterized by athletic body lines and a powerful posture. On the interior, the Santa Fe’s design combines premium quality with a roomy layout that is loaded with technology, including Hyundai’s latest AVN 5.0 navigation system with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ offered with higher level trims. The Santa Fe also has Hyundai’s optional HTRAC® All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) system and a suite of optional Smart Sense Technologies, including Blind-View Monitor and Rear Occupant Alert systems that aid in keeping drivers and passengers safe.
About Kelley Blue Book’s Best Buy Awards
The Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Awards are designed to provide a significant service to new-car buyers by identifying the best of all available 2020 model-year vehicles. The awards are the culmination of a year-long regimen of expert vehicle evaluation and testing of nearly every new vehicle available in America. The comprehensive process includes an analysis of a broad swath of vehicle-related data, including vehicle pricing/transaction prices, 5-Year Cost to Own data (which includes depreciation, insurance, maintenance, financing, fuel, fees and taxes for new cars), consumer reviews and ratings, and vehicle sales/retail sales information. Of more than 300 new-car models available for 2020, Kelley Blue Book’s expert editors initially narrowed the field to a few dozen Best Buy Award contenders in various categories, and then spent several weeks testing and evaluating all the finalists head-to-head to ultimately determine the winners. The awards identify the highest-value choices in 16 popular vehicle categories, and one overall winner for Best New Model, available for sale in the U.S. market for the 2020 model year.
