COSTA MESA, Calif., June 5, 2013 – With a shared passion for rethinking convention, Hyundai is proud to be a sponsor of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s (LACMA) exhibition The Presence of the Past: Peter Zumthor Reconsiders LACMA, part of the Getty’s initiative Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in L.A.
The exhibition details the complicated past and proposed future of the museum's campus. Swiss architect Peter Zumthor was commissioned to rethink the east campus, providing new insight into the meaning and function of an encyclopedic museum and the relationship of architecture to its site. The Presence of the Past begins with an examination of the museum's architecture, including realized and unrealized projects by William L. Pereira, Rem Koolhaas, and others. It then focuses on Zumthor’s preliminary plans for a new building to house the permanent collection, with several large models built by the architect’s studio. The exhibit runs in LACMA’s Resnick Pavilion June 9–September 15, 2013.
“Innovation is inherent to groundbreaking architecture, which challenges physical and conceptual limits, leading to breakthrough new aesthetics that shape our world,” said Steve Shannon, vice president, Marketing, Hyundai Motor America. “Hyundai’s approach to innovation mirrors that of modern architects – challenging conventional thinking, forging new, creative solutions that elevate the industry standards and even reshaping how people view transportation.”
Southern California has been Hyundai’sU.S.home for more than 27 years. By the end of 2013, Hyundai will move into a brand new, modern headquarters inFountain Valley,Calif. The new campus doubles the size of the previous building, topping 500,000 sq. ft. in six stories, and enables Hyundai’s growth into the future. The project embodies Hyundai’s innovation and creativity, and also reflects Hyundai’s commitment to investing in the communities in which they operate.
