Nov. 27, 2000 - A two year real-life road testing programme with electric-powered Santa Fe models is being undertaken by HMC in Hawaii.
Under a deal with the Hawaii State Government agreed by HMC Chairman Chung Mong-Ku, 15 electric powered Santa Fe models will be used by the State Government, the local electricity company, the US Air Force and the Honolulu city authorities.
The programme will start at the beginning of 2001 and operate for two years during which time HMC will provide full support and obtain important real-life usage data on the vehicles.
Zero pollution vehiclesThe Hawaii programme will provide an excellent test-bed as part of HMC’s on-going zero pollution vehicle development strategy in order to meet United States’ and other countries’ exhaust emission regulations.
The Hawaiian State Government is installing fast-charge facilities for the vehicles and HMC will monitor all aspects of usage, charging and environmental impact.
The company has also been working on fuel cell powered vehicles and recently joined the Californian Fuel Cell Partnership along with other leading auto makers to speed the commercialization of these vehicles.
