SEOUL, Korea, Nov. 3, 2003 - Hyundai Motor Co.’s October exports surged to an all-time high of 146,363 units while domestic vehicle sales rose by 6.6 percent over the previous month fueled by strong demand for the Porter pickup truck and other commercial vehicles. At 8,211 units, the Porter topped the domestic sales charts as the country’s best selling vehicle last month followed by the Sonata (7,400 units) and Santa Fe (6,891 units).

Brisk overseas demand for the Elantra, Accent and Santa Fe lifted October exports by 19.6 percent over the previous month and by 28.2 percent over the comparable period last year. Cumulative overseas shipments for the first ten months stood at 1,058,215 units, up 20.1 percent y-o-y.
