SUPERIOR TOWNSHIP, MICH., April 21st, 2016 – Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) has named Dr. Minsup Lee to the newly created position of vice president. In this role, Dr. Lee will assist HATCI President William Freels in leading Hyundai’s design, technology and engineering activities for the North American market. Additionally, Dr. Lee will coordinate with Hyundai Research and Development headquarters in Namyang, South Korea.

“The U.S. automotive market is one of the most challenging for overseas automakers, so Hyundai dedicates exceptional resources to satisfying the American customer,” said Dr. Lee. “I am honored to accept this role at a time when HATCI is increasing responsibility for vehicle development and entering its 30th year of operations.”

Dr. Lee has been with Hyundai for 20 years, most recently as the director of the Overseas R&D Management Team at Hyundai Motor Company. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Oklahoma State University.

As Hyundai Motor Group’s (HMG) first overseas research and development center, Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) was established in 1986 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Now, as part of a large R&D network boasting ten organizations across the globe, HATCI is HMG’s design, technology and engineering headquarters for the North American market.
