HYUNDAI TEAMS UP WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF ORANGE COUNTY

HYUNDAI’S CHARITABLE DONATION OF $65,000 HELPS BUILD A NEW COMMUNITY FOR VETERANS AND FAMILIES IN SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., 07/20/2009

This weekend Hyundai donated a total of $65,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Orange County to help fund the new Habitat for Heroes and Foundations for Families™ community in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. A donation of $50,000 was made to assist with the cost of building materials and an additional $15,000 check was presented to Habitat for Humanity of Orange County Board Member Mark Mathews by President and CEO John Krafcik at the build site on July 18.

On Saturday, more than 60 Hyundai employees rolled up their sleeves to lend a helping hand at the San Juan Capistrano build site for their first of two dedicated build dates working alongside families to help construct their new homes. The second volunteer build date will take place on August 1.

“It’s an honor for Hyundai to be working with Habitat for Humanity of Orange County on another great project for veterans and families in need,” said Krafcik. “The men and women of Hyundai are dedicated to helping our community and this opportunity provides us with the perfect avenue to show support in our own backyard.”

The Habitat for Heroes and Foundations for Families™ build site will consist of 27 new homes at the eastern end of Calle Rolando in San Juan Capistrano. Fourteen of the homes are being dedicated to combat-disabled veterans and their families, or surviving families of military members, and 13 homes are being built to help local families step into homeownership.

Hyundai Motor America is a long-time partner of Habitat for Humanity of Orange County, helping build strong communities for qualified low-income families throughout Orange County since 2002.

134 houses built in Orange County

Habitat for Humanity of Orange County, headquartered in Santa Ana, CA, is dedicated to ending substandard housing and building strong communities in Orange County.  Habitat uses non-government donations of funding, materials, professional services and volunteer labor to build simple, decent homes which are sold to qualified low-income families for a 1% down payment, closing costs, and a long-term mortgage.  Mortgage payments are recycled to build more Habitat homes.  Habitat families contribute 500 hours of “sweat equity” to the program by building their own home, helping another Habitat family build a home, or working in some other area of the Habitat organization. Habitat for Humanity families and volunteers have built 130 homes in Orange County since 1988, and are currently building five homes in San Juan Capistrano, three homes in Yorba Linda, and two homes in Fullerton.
